Explore Minnesota Television
Tourism is a very important part of Minnesota's economy. Over 24
million dollars is spent in Minnesota each day on travel related
items, resulting in over 1.1 billion dollars in state and local
taxes every year. Over 231,000 people are employed in the travel and
hospitality industry in Minnesota. Growth in this area has an
immediate and positive ripple effect throughout the entire state.
Tourism is also an industry that can not be exported, so an
investment in tourism is guaranteed to stay in Minnesota.
In July of 2004, the
Minnesota Office of Tourism was separated from the Minnesota
Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED). This new
entity, renamed Explore Minnesota Tourism, opened the doors to a
number of new ways to market Minnesota. Minnesota Video
Productions, formed a marketing partnership with Explore Minnesota
Tourism to develop Explore Minnesota
Television
which is a television program, a hotel channel
running 24/7 and a web site rich with streaming video.
